Sunday February 1. We will mark the oldest and final feast day in the season of Epiphany. It is known as the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple, the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary or Candlemas. This feast lands on February 2nd, falling exactly 40 days after Christmas. It wraps up the full celebration of Jesus’ infancy narratives from Christmas through the Epiphany season. It is the final epiphany where Jesus is revealed as the “light for revelation to the Gentiles” and our Saviour.
Traditionally, and before electricity, people brought candles to church to be blessed for use in the coming year. You are invited to bring your candles to be blessed on Sunday February 1.
