The Doors Were Shut, for Fear…: The Second Sunday of Easter

Sunday, April 28, 2019:
Acts 5:27-32
Revelation 1:4-8
John 20:19-31

Following a night of no sleep that included a flukey cat-related injury and resulting emergency room visit, and having reflected on the recent attacks in places of worship (including the previous day’s attack at a synagogue), Fr. Kieswetter threw out his sermon, explicated John’s problematic recurring use of the term “the Jews,” spoke about how the fear of the disciples seems to be manifesting in our world today, and how Thomas Merton identified the root of violence as fear: fear of the “other,” yes, but really, a fear and hatred of ourselves that we refuse to face, and thus, foist on others.

No manuscript exists, save for some illegible notes.

The whole thing was rather weepy.
